Hand painted silk Chinese scrolls exhibiting at the Summer craft fair

Rajia Nash will be showing her hand painted silk Chinese scrolls

"In China people believe they can attract good fortune and avert misfortune by speaking lucky words and surrounding themselves with lucky objects. Auspicious Chinese symbols are found in art on scrolls and other paintings, on craftwork, in architecture, on household objects, etc. There are symbols to attract prosperity, longevity, good luck and happiness. Pine trees and bamboo, for example, are symbols of longevity and resilience in Chinese culture as they grow well all year round. Chinese flower symbols represent the natural nectar that brings growth, prosperity and a fresh start in life. The peony is the symbol of prosperity and nobility; the chrysanthemum signifies a life of ease as well as longevity; the orchid is an emblem of spring and of fertility and a symbol of perfection and abundance; and the lotus signifies purity, perfection and enlightenment—the ultimate goal in life. The lily stands for innocence and the carnation is a symbol of marriage.  Plum blossom is a symbol of winter and of strength of personality whilst peach blossom is believed to bring good luck. Apple blossom represents beauty and cherry blossom is a symbol of female beauty, love, power and strength.
Animal symbols are also considered auspicious in Chinese culture. For example, the butterfly signifies love and the crab prosperity. Horses are symbols of endurance and loyalty whilst goldfish are thought to bring wealth and harmony because the symbol means an abundance of gold. The rooster is thought to ward off evil spirits and the tiger is the emblem of dignity and courage and is also a symbol of protection. The cat brings good luck and keeps evil spirits at bay whilst the crane represents longevity, wisdom and nobility."

JayB-Artworks is returning to St. Peter's Church

Jay Brockbank

"Basicaly I  love to work in indian ink. And I do this by building up the layers of colour/depth. At the moment it is my hobby but would love to turn proffesional. I am lucky to live on a farm with my other half who does keepering and tractor driving  and that gives me some amazing insights and inspiration of the local wildlife. I also have several dogs and a horse too and really enjoy the challage of doing a loved pet's or horses portrait for other people."

Art by Caroline Blake at St. Peter's Church

Art by Caroline Blake

"I would describe my mixed media work as “vivid nature”, as it’s all about colour which I make vibrant with pearlescent and fluorescent acrylics and I love to embellish with jewels, beads or sparkle. The paints are applied onto board lined with tissue paper which I crease in an individual way for every piece, giving a textured 3D effect. My latest obsession is to apply tiny beads to the crevices of the tissue to create an interesting terrain. I am a stickler for placing my gems and beads in the right places and will sometimes be seen hoovering my paintings if I am not happy with a stray bead.
The titles of my current paintings are rather tongue-in-cheek; I enjoy playing with the word "tree”, which is worked into the title. I am a self-taught painter inspired by my maternal grandfather who was a member of the Royal academy. I am able to offer commissions and if you love particular colours I can create something personal for a special room."

Five adjectives that sum up my ethos and work are:
Vibrant
Funky
Contemporary
Striking
Bling

Lollipop Tree Designs

Lollipop Tree designs will be exhibiting their handstamped artwork and giftware at the 'Summer craft fair' in Sudbury.  Here are a few photo's of what you can expect to see.

'Cedarcroft productions' will be exhibiting at the 'Summer craft fair'

Cedarcroft productions will be joining us again at St. Peter's with some new items for you to browse...

Garden Signs - £4 each
These are made of MDF and routers around the edge for a stylish finish.  They are then painted and laser engraved with a saying or other text and appropriate graphic.  To finish off the signs are varnished to ensure they are weather proof.

Wooden Keepsake Boxes - £2 - £6
These items come in various shapes and sizes and will be laser engraved with a funny saying and appropriate graphic.  I will also have some wooden jewelry keepsake boxes which will be engraved in a similar style.  These have two trays for storing your special items, as well as a mirror on the underside of the lid.

Chopping Boards - £5 - £8
These items will either be engraved with a picture and saying, or have a 3D effect Aztec calendar on one side.  The 3D effect does differ depending on the type of wood and number of runs through with the laser, but does result in a stunning piece of work.

My web site address is www.CedarcroftProductions.co.uk which will have most of the above items in the Gallery, as well as showing some other work I have undertaken during the past 4 months.  I really specialise in cutting and engraving wood, but am now starting to work on glass, slate and tiles, as well as looking at card cutting for very intricate shapes and patterns.

"Arcady Inspirations - Isabel Bentley"

Creative, peaceful photography for everyone by Isabel Bentley. Quality mounted prints, traditional frames. float frames, canvas prints blank greeting cards all available from displayed images on www.arcadyinspirations.com

"by Kasey"

"My subjects are almost always nature, unless I'm taking for a competition. Flowers, wildlife, birds, water, sky, anything I like the look of I'll try and get a decent shot of and hope someone else will like it enough to buy it. My cameras are always with me so I should never miss 'that shot' (except the deer who only seem to run across in front of the car when I'm driving!!)
I print and frame everything myself and I only make one print in each size from each shot (from A4 to 16"x12" or I can order a larger print on canvas if required) , so every product is unique.
Prices vary from £8 - £21 (larger canvases more) according to the size of the picture and style of frame."

Handmade crafts for your home at the Spring craft fair

We have a wide selection of makers exhibiting their crafts for the home at this event, here are a few to get you inspired.

"Dear Blackbird"

"Vintage Home Style"

"Simply Handmade Ltd"

"Sarah Sews"

"Sheepgate Crafts"

"One of my hobbies is sewing.  I started  making my own clothes when I was a teenager and took it up again when my daughters were small.   The problem with sewing for a hobby is what to do with all the things you make – there is only so much you can give to family and friends! I decided that if I could sell some items at local farmers markets and craft fairs that would allow me to carry on with my hobby without filling up the house.   So Sheepgate Crafts was born."

"Pins and Needles"

"Mad Bird Designs"

"Art design and making things has been a lifelong journey. From learning to hand knit at age four, teaching machine knitting, publishing machine knit patterns, crochet, painting and now recycling other peoples unwanted items. All these art forms have entranced me and I hope I have given some pleasure to the viewers.
I consider myself an enthusiastic dabbler in many crafts and love to play with art mediums. Obsession is my main influence, something will catch my imagination and I am off on a journey until the 50p ticket runs out.  Then away I go on something else. For this reason I rarely repeat designs. Most of my work involves a story within the work, either the pictures are reworked into a new story or the items themselves have a history.
A self-taught Mixed Media and Textile Artist I rely on working hard to get my ideas into my finished items. The inspiration for my art comes from the items that I find at auctions, charity shops and boot fairs. Sometimes items will stay with me for years before being put in just the right place.
I am an avid reader, fanatic sock knitter, Queen of the compost heap, vegetable grower, dog lover and regular Mad Bird."

"Buttons in Bloom"
